PHP is an abbreviation that originally meant Personal Home Page but now has been renamed to Hypertext Preprocessor. It is an open source and portable scripting language for web developers and provides a back end servers side operation. It does not have a proper interface and users are expected to execute command line scripts. As such it is only useful to advanced users, programmers, web developers etc.
