PuTTy is a free open source and portable application for remote controls solutions for the advanced users. It supports several network protocols, including SCP, SSH, Telnet, rlogin, and raw socket connection. These protocols are all used to run a remote session on a computer, over a network. PuTTY implements the client end of that session: the end at which the session is displayed, rather than the end at which it runs. This means you run PuTTY on a Windows machine to connect for instance to a Unix machine. You can type commands using the program interface and it will be sent straight to the Unix machine, and everything the Unix machine sends back is displayed in your windows. You can also save settings for each session to make subsequent sessions faster.
