If you're serious about sound processing then you need a professional audio editor such as SoundForge. But there is a free analog of SoundForge and at the same time is the smallest audio editor in the world. Wavosaur supports almost all of the major tools for sound processing, including cutting, copying and pasting. It can record sound from microphone and convert files in batch mode. Additionally Wavosaur has many useful features for handling files: adding silence, re-sampling, volume normalization, adding damping support VST-plugin etc.
